- Teacher Education/Teacher
Professional Development
Reflective practice through lived experience, in-service and
pre-service teacher education, pedagogical thoughtfulness/tact,
enhancement of teaching and learning through Learning Study/Lesson
Study, professional development through action research -
Phenomenological Pedagogy
Always wonder about this question: "What is the experience like for
this child at this place at this particular moment?" I am interested in doing phenomenology in education, more
specifically, lived experience based
inquiry - Education Research Methodologies;
Among various types of research methodologies, I
am more interested in Human Science Research Methodology
systematically developed by Dr. Max van Manen, the world leading scholar in
phenomenological inquiry in human science including education,
and health science. -
Classroom-based Lesson Studies
Interested in examining the impact of producing one research
lesson with the efforts of a group of teachers, such as Teaching study in
Mainland China, Lesson Study in Japan and Learning Study in HK SAR.
Besides, I am interested in what the various types of Lesson
Study can do to help understand the dynamics and hidden dimensions of
classroom teaching and learning.
- Outcome of Multi-Cultural Integration;
Interested in examining the cultural impact on ESL/EFL learners
and multi-cultural identity studies -
ESL Teaching and Teacher Education;
Curriculum development for various
English courses of undergraduate and graduate levels; Interested in
applying human science research methodology and hermeneutic
phenomenological inquiry in ESL/EFL teacher education;
- Translatology/Translation Theory and Practice;
Translation
Theories and Practice. Recently I realized
that there is a shift in my interest from translation methods to
methodologies, and from methodologies to translation philosophy
(this includes translation vs hermeneutics, reader response theory
and untranslatability issues in translation.)
- Computer-mediated Education
Instead of looking into how to use artificial intelligence to
replace human resources, I am more interested in how we can use
computer technology as an efficient tool to support our instruction
in different subjects. Another area in this regard that I am
interested in is to look into different ways to integrate computer
technology into school curriculum.
